SLRFU to score with Asanga again

Asanga Seneviratne,the former Thomian, National, and CR&FC rugby star was elected president of SLRFU uncontested at the Annual General Meeting held at the Galle Face Hotel on March 9.



Before electing the office bearers, life member SLRFU of Y.C. Chang, the former Sri Lanka rugby skipper was elected as a Protem chairman. Chang announced that Asanga Seneviratne President of SLRFU will continue for yet another year uncontested as the SLRFU President. The others elected to hold office for the ensuing year are:

Vice President: Lasitha Gunaratna, Hony Secretary: Rizly Illyas and Hony Treasurer: Kiran Atapattu. They were also elected uncontested. Seven council members were also elected.

Asanga in his speech said the Rugby Year of 2012 saw many positive changes at the SLRFU. The most notable achievement for the year under review was the partnership entered into by the SLRFU with the major sponsor Dialog Axiata. This partnership has taken Rugby in Sri Lanka to the next level.

The union with Dialog Axiata is the first step in making rugby the number one spot in Sri Lanka. “We are proud to note that the record five year sponsorship is three times higher than the previous sponsorship that the SLRFU had acquired. Dialog Axiata is committed towards the development of rugby in Sri Lanka by supporting the following competitions: Dialog Rugby league “A” Div, Clifford Cup ko, The National XV-aside team and the Sri Lanka Men’s Sevens team:

Also present at the AGM were Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilleke, Maj. Gen. H.M.W. Krishnaratne, Atorney-at-law Niel Wijeratne and a host of provincial representatives.
