Softlogic emerges champions at Mercantile Knockout Basketball Tournament

Softlogic Holdings PLC emerged champions at the finals of the recently concluded mercantile basketball championship against MAS Holdings PLC, held at Otters Aquatic Club basketball court on 6 November, thus ending its streak of three successive victories on a high note.
Softlogic Holdings PLC took off with a rocky start, trailing by 9 points at the end of the first quarter behind their opponent’s score of 14 points. However the determined Softlogic team battled throughout the second quarter, racking up their defensive strategies to close the gap between scores to 4 points by the end of the first half.
Softlogic Holdings PLC continued to make things difficult for the increasingly disheartened MAS Holdings team, bringing the scores to 37-36 in favour of MAS by a single point. Softlogic finally launched a devastating offensive in the nail-biting final quarter, culminating in Softlogic Holdings’ 7 point victory over MAS Holdings, in an extremely closely contested encounter that never failed to entertain the excited crowd. The final score stood at 56-49 in favour of Softlogic.
The day’s final was a postponement of the encounter between MAS Holdings and Softlogic Holdings PLC held last Wednesday, which was halted due to adverse weather conditions with five minutes left in the game and Softlogic leading by 14 points.
Top scorers for Softlogic Holdings were Chamara Praneethwith 14 points, Roshantha Liyanage with 12 points, Yahya Mohamed with 11 points and Romesh Wijesekara with 10 points. Chamara was designated Most Outstanding Player of the tournament for his valuable and consistent performance throughout the tournament.
