Tottenham remain winless heading into the international break, failing to find a way past Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard as the two sides played out a goalless draw at White Hart Lane.
Harry Kane went through one-on-one in the first half but was denied, while Ryan Mason also saw two shots from inside the box saved. The Lilywhites had to settle for a single point for the third match in a row, having previously lost their leads against Stoke City and Leicester.
On the one hand, given that Mauricio Pochettino bemoaned his side’s defensive errors in the build-up to the game, the head coach and his players will be pleased to have recorded their first clean sheet of the season.
But on the other, the north London outfit have managed only three goals of their own in their opening four Premier League fixtures, and their profligacy on Saturday will only strengthen the argument that chairman Daniel Levy has cost the club valuable league points by waiting for so long to sign attacking midfielders Clinton Njie and Heung-Min Son, neither of whom were available against Everton, and failing to sign a forward.
