Sri Lanka finish fourth at Asian Under-18 girls’ rugby tourney

The Sri Lanka Under-18 girls’ rugby outfit beat Uzbekistan and UAE to end up fourth in the six-team event.

Sri Lanka lost to a strong Indian girls’ team 29-0 and were later outclassed by a physical Kazakhstan outfit 31-0. A strong Hong Kong team then ousted Sri Lanka 24-0.

In their final two games Sri Lanka beat Uzbekistan 14-5 and hosts UAE 19-5 to finish behind Hong Kong, India and Kazakhstan. 

The Sri Lanka Under-18 outfit is led by Nimesha Wijewardana of Dehiowita National School and coached by Thanuja Werrakody, with Sri Lanka Rugby High Performance Coaching Director Inthi Marikar overseeing the team.
