Nigel Bronze Division winner and Mahisha runner up
The under 10 age group category (Bronze Division) concluded after day two which is currently being played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, Colombo. Much promise was shown among the juniors with Nigel Fernando from USA playing brilliant golf to clinch the win by 1 shot closely followed by Mahisha Hirushan of D.S. Senanayake College. Nigel Fernando shows much potential winning the age group category for the second year running. We are also likely to see players such as Prabath of Bandaranayake College and Vikesh of D.S. Senanayake College blossoming in the years ahead.
In the main event Sri Lanka Junior Golf championship Sachin De Silva leads by 1 shot with a total score of 149 followed by Zaffar Sikkander of British School at total score of 150. A very high standard of golf was evident with both players competing shot for shot. Much excitement is likely with Prashan Peiris of St. Thomas College showing his ability to be a force to reckon with, playing in the leader group on the final day.
In the Silver Division – 11-14 years: Ishira Fernando of Gateway School fresh from his win from the Regional Open golf Championship Trincomalee leads the division with a total score of 168 over two rounds, Sathsara Dilshan 172 and lying third Armand Flamer Caldera 173 who showed temperament in his game. Hiruna Sigera and Taniya Minel, pose stiff competition and are likely to surprise.
The three-day Sri Lanka Junior golf Championship is sponsored by ‘Prima’ and organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) and will conclude on Wednesday with the prize gala awards ceremony.
