Sri Lanka Lawyers Team leaves for Brisbane to fight for 5th Lawyers Cricket World Cup

Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket team will be participating in the 5th Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup, which will be held in Brisbane, Australia from 29 December 2015 to 12 January 2016.

This is the fifth time that Sri Lanka taking part in the competition and all test playing countries are expected to participate thereat.

The World Cup in Australia is expected to have the highest number of representing teams in the Lawyers’ World Cup history with the possible inclusion of teams from Bangladesh and Singapore and it is anticipated that the tournament will be highly competitive and keenly contested. As always, the event will be witnessed by a great number of distinguished legal luminaries and professionals the world over.

The previous tournaments were held in Hyderabad, India in 2007, Cambridge, England in 2009, Barbados in 2011 and Delhi 2013. Sri Lanka Lawyers Team participated in the 3rd Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup held in Barbados emerged runners-up in the event.

The Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket Team which will take part in the World Cup will leave the Island on 26 December.

Sri Lanka Lawyers Cricket team comprises mainly of private practitioners with representation from the State Sector as well as corporate Sector. 12 of the 15 players in the squad have played world cup cricket with three playing in all four world cups held so far. 

The team with each players’ working station: Manesh Wevita (Captain) (Negombo), Yushan Tharanga Abeykoon (Vice Captain) (Ministry of Finance), Asela Patabendi (Colombo), Buwaneka Basnayake (F.J & G De Seram Legal Firm), Yohan Jinasena (Panadura), Priyantha Rajapaksha (Colombo), Ershan Ariaratnam (Colombo), Rasiah Elangkumaran (Vaunia), Lakshantha Athukorala (Central Bank of Sri Lanka), Thusith Paliwatta (Galle), Gihan Kularatne (Kurunegala), Pavithra Bolapage (Colombo), Deshan Wimalarathne (Colombo), Kamal Jayathilaka (Colombo), Udaya Basnayaka (Colombo), Upali Senarathne (Coach) (Land Reclamation and Development Corporation).
