Sri Lanka Rugby Sevens players narrowly missed out on an opportunity of grabbing a Bronze medal for the very first time in rugby football at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea yesterday.
After losing to Japan in the semi final 40-0, Sri Lanka were edged out by the hosts South Korea 17-14 in the play off for the third place.
Japan went on to retain the Gold which they won in China four years back when they defeated Hong Kong 24-12 in the Cup Finals. Hong Kong at last settled for a Silver.
In the women’s segment China showed their dominance when they beat Japan 14/12, while Kazakhstan secured the Bronze medal when they beat Hong Kong 12/0
Sri Lanka player Lavanga Perera on the move with support on his way from Dinusha Chathuranga, Nigel Ratwatte and Sudharshana Muthuthanthri, Japan beat Sri Lanka 40-0
