Sri Lanka overcome hapless Pakistan to win first T20

HAMBANTOTA: Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka got under way with a 30-run loss, on Friday, as the visitors were unable to chase down a 133-run target in the first Twenty20 match at Hambantota.

Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka launched a late comeback to post 132-7, with Thisara Perera leading the scoring with 32 not out.



In reply, Pakistan were dismissed for 90 as Mohammad Hafeez made a forgettable start to his twenty20 captaincy with a first-ball duck.

Sohail Tanvir made a bright start for Pakistan, with a wicket in the first over as he dismissed Jayawardene. Tanvir went on to take 3 wickets for 12 runs, his T20 career-best figures.

Saeed Ajmal also contributed with 2 wickets for 20 runs.

Shakeel Ansar made his debut for Pakistan as Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Sami returned to the team.

The second and final Twenty20 match will be played on Sunday.
