Sri Lanka pummels Bangladesh in South Asian Basketball contest

Sri Lanka thumped Bangladesh 126-36 in the first qualifying match of the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Zone under-18 men’s basketball championships here at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium on Saturday. It was the first time that Sri Lanka has beaten Bangladesh in six years. The Sri Lankan outfit began aggressively and ran into a huge 68-15 halftime lead. They kept the foot on the pedal and rammed home the advantage in the second half as Bangladesh struggled to keep up with their opponents. Antony (35) top scored for the Sri Lankans with both Umair and Nadeeja Nichula popping up with 19 points each. Speaking on the win, the Lankan coach was delighted. “We beat Bangladesh today for the first time in six years. After this win, we are confident that we can perform well against India in our next and final match.” The winners of the competition will go through to the under-18 Asian Championships, which is taking place in Doha. Result: Sri Lanka 126 (Antony 35, Umair Md Naleer 19, Nadeeja L. Nichula 19) beat Bangladesh 36: (Hasan Mohd 16); HT 68-15.
