The Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Eagles got the better of the Softlogic Warriors 21-14 in a thrilling Cup finals played at the Racecourse rugby grounds last weekend.
The winners recorded two spectacular tries by former Trinity skipper and rugby Lion Tharinda Ratwatte while the Peterites, playing cohesive rugby, outclassed their traditional rivals St. Joseph’s College 31-12 in the Schools final. The Cargills Gladiators claimed the Plate championship when they outclassed the EZY Wolves 28-7. The Walkers CML Vipers won the Shield, beating the Access Kings 27-7 while the Bowl was won by the KBSL Dragons when they beat the Etisalat Panthers 26-21.
Isipathana College went on to beat Wesley College 29-0 while Zahira won the Bowl. The Shield was secured by the Thomians, who suffered a disappointing end after winning the Schools Sevens tournament with an outstanding outfit. All points earned in the first leg will be carried forward to the final leg on 12 and 13 August at the same venue.
