Abaya and Co Director Shalutha Adasuriya hands over the Title Sponsorship to the SLARDAR President Nishan Wasalathanthri and AMRC President Dinesh Jayawardana
The 2017 motoring season is set to flag off in grand style as the ‘Sri Lanka Super Series 2017’ conducts the first of its six racing events later this month.
Powered by Abaya & Company, the distributors for USHA pistons and SPR piston rings, the Sri Lanka Super Series 2017 takes place in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) and the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC).
The six racing events of the Sri Lanka Super Series 2017 include the Katukurunda Circuit Meet (18 and 19 March), Fox Hill Supercross (21 and 22 April), inaugural Colombo Supercross (6 and 7 May), Cavalry Supercross (1 and 2 July), Commando Supercross (15 and 16 July) and the Pannala Circuit Meet (Night Race – 9 and 10 September) while the season will end with the official Awards Ceremony.
Across the six events, Sri Lanka’s finest drivers and riders will battle it out to be crowned the “Champion Driver” and “Champion Rider” by the end of the year.
The Champion Driver will receive a brand new KIA Picanto car with the courtesy of Vision Care Ltd. and co-sponsored by KIA Motors Lanka Ltd. The Champion Rider will receive a brand new Honda Hornet Motorcycle provided by Stafford Motors. All awards will be handed over at the gala awards ceremony planned on 2 December at the Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall in Attidiya.
Several organisations are set to lend their support for this series. Jeep comes in as the “Recovery Partner” while, for the first time in the series’ history, ProMate will join up to give away much-needed stationery as gifts to all the participants in the Under-16, Under-13 and Under-10 Motorcycle classes.
Addressing the gathering at the official launch ceremony, SLARDAR President Nishan Wasalathanthri stated: “As you are aware, we have always focused a great deal on continuous improvement of the sport and therefore I am proud to state that this year’s ‘Sri Lanka Super Series’ is bigger and better than ever before. We have made every possible effort to provide greater resources and grand prizes in order to attract, encourage and motivate the country’s finest drivers and riders to perform at their best. I am sure they will offer plenty of thrills to the huge crowds that are expected at each of the events.”
He stated that the sport will never be what it is today if not for passion shown by the competitors and added: “The SLARDAR & AMRC have been in the forefront in rewarding the competitors from inception and we are confident that with these new developments, the sport will be taken to the next level during the year.”
