The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) will field a team for Asian rugby sevens Under 20 tournament which will take place in Malaysia and the second leg in Hong Kong. The Malaysian leg will take place on 30 and 31 July while the second leg will be worked off in Hong Kong on 12 and 13 August at the Hong Kong Football Club in Causeway Bay.
There will be selection games taking place in Colombo, 16 and 17 July. Clubs, Provinces, Schools, and other registered rugby bodies will lock horns in this tournament. Eligible players should be born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1999. Players born between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 1999 must complete the World Rugby eligibility form. Most of the players who represented at the 2015 Youth Asian Sevens also can participate in this competition.
The inaugural tournament was won by Isipathana led by Omalka Gunaratne. Sri Lanka will be under the watchful eyes of Matt Turner and High Performance Director, Inthi Marikar to explore the future talent for the senior outfit.
