The outfit who were a regular invitee for the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens which commenced its journey in 1976 will participate at the Sevens World Series qualifier which is scheduled to be held from 7 to 9 April at the Hong Kong Stadium.

When it comes to Sevens rugby, Sri Lankans who are more suited for the shorter version of the game won the Bowl once in 1984 under Hisham Abdeen’s leadership the year this trophy (Bowl) which was on offer for the very first time. Since then Sri Lanka on and off got invited but the performance never reached its peak due to the games involving top 15 sevens teams around the globe. But in the recent past the tournament format was changed by World Rugby to suit all teams.  The 12 team event will see the winners of this qualifier move to the World Series 2017/2018 as the 16th team with the last placed team in the World Series 2016/2017 dropping down to the World Series qualification process which gives all team an equal opportunity according their performance in their respective regions.
