Sri Lanka know we are dangerous: West Indies’ Sammy
REUTERS: The West Indies and Sri Lanka are looking to renew old rivalries when the 2012 finalists meet in the 2014 T20 World Cup semi-final in Mirpur, Bangladesh on Thursday (3).
The West Indies broke the hearts of hosts Sri Lanka when the two sides met in the 2012 final, winning the game by 36 runs in Colombo. It was the first time that the West Indies had won the tournament whereas Sri Lanka, who have reached at least the semi-finals in the last four tournaments, have yet to win the competition.
Spin bowling has been a crucial weapon during the tournament and, in bowlers Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree, West Indies Captain Darren Sammy knows he has two players who could cause problems for Sri Lanka.
Badree recently moved to the top of the ICC Twenty20 bowling rankings, one above his team-mate Narine.
“You’re looking at number one and two in the West Indies bowling line-up - (Sunil) Narine and (Samuel) Badree - and, you know (Krishmar) Santokie has done his bit. Both of them have, I think, only six runs per over, so, yes, we are aware of the threat they bring but they also should be aware of the threat we bring, you know,” said Sammy at a news conference on Wednesday (2)
Sammy was also quick to point out that Sri Lanka know how dangerous his side are having lost to the West Indies in the 2012 final, as well as a practice game ahead of this year’s competition.
“I guess, the final will be at the back of their mind, the practice game will be at the back of their mind, because they know - once the West Indies come up and turn up, West Indies is dangerous,” he said with a smile. |
