Sri Lanka women’s rugby sevens squad selected

By Shamseer Jaleel Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) selected the pool of 18 players for this month’s Asian Sevens series in Hong Kong which will take place on 23 and 24 August. The second led will take place in Shanghai, China later on 18 and 19 October this year. Sri Lanka women’s sevens team won the Plate in Thailand last year further they ended on 8th position over all in India last year. The side which is a blend of youth and experience are all out to give their best with some top quality players who got international experience for more than five years. They are Ayesha Perera, Sandeepa Sandamalee, Nirnajana Wickremaratne, Ruwani Deepika, R. Ratnayake and Thanuja Wijewardena.

 Isipathana win All-Island Under 14 Milo rugby

Isipathana College juniors continued their good work done by the senior team when the Under 14 outfit edged out Science College by 19-15 in their Cup final yesterday at the Royal Sports Complex. Trinity settled for the Plate when they defeated Wesley by 17-10 in the final. Thomians bagged the Bowl when they beat Vidyartha 25-5. Zahira took charge of the Shield beating Nalanda 14-5 in the finals. (SJ)
