The teams that are taking part in the Fed cup 2014 Asia-Oceania Zone Group 11, the corresponding women’s version of the Davis Cup or the virtual World Cup of Women’s tennis , have been named, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announces. The event will be held from 4 to 8 February on indoor hard surface courts at the National Tennis Centre, Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Sri Lanka Fed Cup team comprises former Fed Cup rep and reigning Sri Lanka Women’s Champion Amritha Muttiah, Nethmi Waduge, 98th Nationals Tennis Championship Women’s Doubles winner Medhira Samarasinghe and Kemalie Herath. Fed Sup rep for Sri Lanka, Shalini de Silva nee Pereira will be the non-playing captain of the Sri Lanka team while the team Manager will be Sujani Bogollagama.
Teams from Hong Kong China, India, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and Vietnam will be in contention.
The format will be the round-robin basis where there will be three pools, (named Pools A, B and C) and one pool of 4 countries (Pool D).
The four winners of each pool will play-off to determine which country advances to the Asia – Oceania Zone Group 1. Only one country will be promoted to the Zone’s Group 1 in 2015.
