La Donna the new Prima donna on the horizon

La Donna, the fashionably bred 3 year old bay, daughter of Multidimensional, out of Forest Treasure, bred at the Usha Stud, set the Mysore Racetrack alight when she won  the Srikantadatta Narasimharaaja Wadiyar Memorial Million on Friday 26th August. Owned by the Sri Lanka based couple the Rienzie Edwards, the filly is trained by Bangalore based professional Darius Byramji and she gave the Western India based champion jockey A.Sandesh an armchair ride to victory.

La Donna turned in an absolutely electrifying performance over the 1400 metre circuit, pulverising the four geldings, one colt and two fillies of her vintage that were bold enough to face her. Hitting the front as soon as the gates clanged open, La Donna cruised to an effortless victory which at a shade under 6 lengths frankly speaking only flattered the beaten brigade. She hardly worked up a sweat and Sandesh was easing her up in the last furlong when she stopped the clock at a mind boggling 1 Min. 21.20 Sec. as compared to the track record of 1 Min.21.168 Sec.

This was a truly superb display and La Donna who according to her trainer Darius Byramji always behaved like a prima donna (which is why she was named La Donna), had now lived up to that Prima Donna status. The victory earned her connections over Rs.1.5 million, but more than that it was a triumph that had class and classic stamped all over it. This is a filly with quite a future and you will be hearing a lot about La Donna in time to come!
