Sri Lankan Real Fighting World Kyokushin Budokai team shines in India

26The International Full Contact Karate Tournament, which was organised by International Black Dragon Karate under kickboxing rules, was held on 27, 28 and 29 December at India’s Kerala Thissur Indoor Stadium. 

Fighters from Afghanistan, Nepal, Malaysia, India and Sri Lanka participated in this tournament. Sri Lankan representative, Branch Chief President Sensei Sampath Lasantha (WKB), led the Sri Lankan Real Fighting World Kyokushin Budokai organisation with a winning and determined sprit, under the management of Chamil Gajanayake (VP -WKB). 

The Sri Lankan Real Fighting World Kyokushin Budokai team performed really well at the tournament and the team’s hard work, months of practice and dedication paid off when the team was able to make Sri Lanka proud.  In the 25 kg-30 kg weight category, Vinuja Isuru Jayasinghe, a representative of Ananda Sastralaya College, Kotte, came second out of 27 trained fighters from different karate styles.

 Out of 19 trained fighters from various styles of karate, 13-year-old Nadun Madushan, also from Ananda Sastralaya College, Kotte, finished third in the 40 kg-45kg weight category. This young competitor had to fight against the champion, who was 21 years old and a remarkable fighter. 

After fighting against 12 tough opponents in the Above 80 kg Heavyweight category, Heshan Jayanath Perera, a 17-year-old schoolboy from Maharagama Central College, placed second. Perera performed extremely well throughout the tournament.  Priyankara Pathum reached the semifinals of the 75kg-80kg weight category, showing a great fighting spirit in all his matches.  These achievements brought Sri Lanka pride and the WKB Sri Lanka team was commended for its remarkable performance at the International Full Contact Karate Tournament.

Sensei Sampath Lasantha and his team are looking forward to acquiring more achievements and even greater standards.
