Last Friday saw a private opening of Sri Lanka’s first indoor Golf Simulator.  A small gathering of golfers and guests witnessed and experienced the full functionality of the Simulator and by all accounts it received enthusiastic responses and positive feedback from those present.

The Pleisure Golf Simulator is an initiative by Maha and Indira Jayetileke, a husband and wife team, to bring state of the art golf simulator technology to Sri Lanka.

Golf simulators and the associated technology have progressed by leaps and bounds in recent years from its early use in amusement arcades to its current position where it is now widely used by golf instructors and professional golfers as an invaluable tool in teaching and improving performance.  The Pleisure Golf Simulator uses 3D camera based technology which is somewhat similar to that used by Hawk Eye in cricket and tennis.

The simulator’s wide range of functionality will benefit the entire player spectrum from the beginner to the single handicapper and Pro.  Amongst its many features, is the capability it provides to play major courses and signature holes of the world, its practice functionality to improve personal performance and the powerful instructional and swing analysis tool to address and remedy faults, all in the comfort of a pleasant indoor environment, which makes it must for any aspiring or regular golfer.

This initiative is being driven by two key objectives. Firstly, to help develop junior golf by raising awareness and by providing the facility to introduce the game to the next generation of golfers and secondly, to improve and develop player performance though the high tech and interactive indoor practice environment it offers.  Maha and his wife are focused and committed to make this project work for the wider development of golf in Sri Lanka.

The Pleisure Golf Studio is located at No 1, St Albans’ Place, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4 and will be open each week from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00am to 10.00pm and on Sundays from 10.00am to 08.00pm.  The Studio is closed on Mondays.  The studio is expected to be formally opened to the public during the first week of February.
