SriLankan Airlines “B” retains Soccer Sevens Cup Championship Title

SriLankan Airlines “B” retained the Annual Travel Trade Sports Club Soccer Sevens Cup Championship Title for the second successive year, when they convincingly beat Cinnamon Red by 04 goals to nil in the 04th Traveller Global Ltd. sponsored tournament concluded at the Edward Henry Pedris Stadium on Sunday (21).

Walkers Tours “A” won the Plate and Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo won the Bowl.

Thirteen teams participated in 04 groups, in 02 stages consisting 26 matches including the three finals. At the completion of the group round-robin stage, the first two teams of each Group advanced to the Cup and Plate Championships, while the 03rd placed teams played in the Bowl Championship.

Quarter Finals : Sri Lankan Airlines “B” beat Cinnamon Grand, Colombo 4/3 on penalties, as the match ended in a 0/0 draw; Traveller Global beat Hotel J Negombo, 4/0; Walkers Tours “A” beat Kingsbury , 2/1; Cinnamon Red beat Sri Lankan Airlines “A” 2/1 on penalties, as the match ended in 0/0 draw; 

Semi-Finals: Sri Lankan Airlines “B” beat Traveller Global, 1/0 ; Cinnamon Red beat Walkers Tours “A” 3/2 on penalties, as the match ended in a 1/1 draw; the two losing Semi-Finalists played in the Plate Final – Walkers Tours “A” beat Traveller Global 2/0.

Bowl Final – Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo beat Classic Travels, 2/0.

Cup Final: SriLankan Airlines beat Cinnamon Red, 4/0 after leading 1/0 at half time; the goal scorers were Rajith Dinesh, Mahesh Kumara, Vijay Weerasinghe and P.L.T. Priyadarshana.

Special Awards: Most Outstanding Player – Mahesh Kumara from SriLankan Airlines “B”; Most Promising Player – Heshan Wickramasuriya from Walkers Tours “A”; Most Up & Coming Player – Pravintha Fernando from Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo.

Traveller Global Director Director Rifard Rizmi was the Chief Guest at the post tournament awards presentation. He along with TTSC Officials, Anil Hapugoda, Mani Sugathapala, Bandula Withana, Asiri Wickramasuriya, Ravi Wisidagama and Yakoob Khan presented the awards.
