SriLankan Airlines’ victorious stint at Mercantile Cricket Tournament

The cricket team of SriLankan Airlines entered the Quarter Finals of the Mercantile Cricket Tournament, beating Butani Capital by 37 runs. Having elected to bat first, SriLankan set a target of 226, with impressive knocks of 40 and 38 by Dulan Gunawardena and Sharmal Fernando. 

SriLankan Airlines cricketers led by skipper D.A. Chamara started their victorious stint with the two-wicket win against Avian Technologies. SriLankan team, chasing a target of 106, reached there with the worthy contribution of Sharmal Fernando who scored an unbeaten 42.

The second encounter of the tournament with Baur and Company held at BOI Grounds, Katunayake, ended with a tight victory for SriLankan. Having set a target of 124, SriLankan team managed to send all Baur’s batsmen to the dressing room at the total of 120. Harsha Gayan of SriLankan showed remarkable talent with the ball, having taken 3 wickets for 3, while Ashan Sanjeewa, Sarot Siriwardana, Rovin Jayasuriya, Nalaka de Zoyza and Shramal Fernando ran through the Baur’s batting line up. SriLankan’s encounter with NM Distributions concluded with an impressive 6-wicket win. The contributions of Tharaka de Silva with the ball and Roy Kandeepan with the bat assured the victory for SriLankan. SriLankan’s fourth consecutive win came in the expense of Metropolitan, who was beaten by seven wickets at the Wesley College Grounds. In its victorious match number five, SriLankan beat Coca Cola by a massive margin of 152 runs at the St. Benedict Grounds, Kotahena. Having elected to bat first, SriLankan set a target of 281 in 25 overs. Nuwan Alwis scored an unbeaten 119 with eight sixes and 11 fours. The rivals were all out for 129, with Sharmal Fernando getting a five wicket haul. 

The sixth and the seventh matches saw SriLankan beating Pearson Lanka and Deutsch Bank by 62 and 78 runs respectively.

SriLankan played the Quarter Finals against Brandix, which managed to record a seven-wicket win against the airline.
