Veteran golfers from all parts of India will converge on Sri Lanka’s celebrated Victoria Golf Course in Digana, Kandy, to work off the finals of the Touché Golf League (TGL) on Saturday, 4 December.
SriLankan Airlines joins this prestigious event and will fly in the winning teams from India, which includes top celebrities as Kapil Dev (former Indian Cricket Captain), Nikhil Chopra (former Indian Cricketer), Ateet Gaur (Managing Director Asia-Pac of TaylorMade) and several others.
The Touché Golf League (TGL) featured 1536 of the most ardent amateur club golfers competing to lay claim to be the best golf gang in India.
The TGL was initially held in four zones, in the North, South, East and West of India, from August to end October, to declare the Zonal Champions.
They will now compete in Digana at which the National Champion will be crowned. Set amid a salubrious landscape, with year round temperate tropical climate this award winning golf course is a 360° feast for the senses.
It has an unparalleled view of the mountains of central Sri Lanka, tree lined fairways, magnificent lawns and is indeed a golfer’s dream.
“An event of nature will showcase Sri Lanka as a great golfing destination among the large number of Indian golfers who will undoubtedly enjoy their game at the Victoria Golf Course in Digana, Kandy,” SriLankan Airlines Chief marketing Officer G. T. Jeyaseelan said.
“SriLankan Airlines has at all times showcased this country not only as a sun, sand and beach destination but also as a multi-attraction destination which caters to all tastes across all ages. This also includes Sri Lanka as a vibrant sports destination,” he added.
The SriLankan Airlines Golf Classic, the SriLankan Airlines Pro Surf, the Carlton Sevens etc are just some of the few sporting events which attract a large number of foreign participants to this country. “We’re confident that the Touché Golf League 2011 will open yet another market to Sri Lanka’s sports tourism and thereby firmly place Sri Lanka in the top niches of the region’s sports map,” Jeyaseelan said. The national carrier’s domestic aviation arm, the air taxi service also operates scheduled flights to the Victoria Golf Course, landing on the Victoria Reservoir.
SriLankan Airlines has been an active participant in promoting sports tourism in the country, with a special focus on golf.
Next February, the airline will sponsor another international tournament called the Pro Am, organised by International Golf Solutions and later next year, SriLankan Airlines Golf Classic will be reintroduced the country’s golfing calendar.
