The Sri Lanka domestic cricket season kicked off with two consecutive wins by the HSBC sponsored SSC cricket team. The first match against Tamil Union played at the P Sara Oval was highlighted with opening batsman from both SSC and Tamil Union scoring a double century each.

The feat was not an easy one as former England Under 19 Captain and Warwickshire opener Varun Chopra piled up a total of 233 runs off just 348 balls in his debut for Tamil Union bringing the total posted score to 416 runs in the first innings. SSC responded with a mammoth total of 535 runs for 6 wickets declared with Tharanga Paranavithana scoring a double century supported by two other centuries from SSC Captain Kaushal Silva and Kaushal Lokuarachchi.

Following a highly commendable performance, similar form was seen at the home grounds when SSC beat Lankan CC by seven wickets. SSC Captain Kaushal Silva and Kaushal Lokuarachchi who continued a good batting trend, scored yet another century each to see the home team to victory in just 48 over’s with 2 over’s to spare.

SSC regardless of having seven key players missing from the team, due to commitments with the National team and the Sri Lanka ‘A’ side, managed to pull off extremely convincing wins proving once again that the HSBC sponsored team has a pool of talent that surpasses many other clubs in its league.
