St. Benedict Veterans win All Island School Veterans Invitation Football Tournament

Text and pix by Ruzaik Farook Zahira Veterans Colombo organised the All Island School Veterans Invitation Football Tournament for the first time under the Chairmanship of Zahira Veterans President Naina Mohammed at the Zahira College Grounds recently.

Ananda Veterans Football Club Colombo, De Mazenod Veterans Football Club Kandana, Hameed Al Husseini Veterans Football Club Colombo, St. Benedict Veterans Football Club Colombo, Zahira Veterans Football Club Colombo and Zahira Veterans Gampola Football Club teams participated at this tournament. St. Benedict Veterans Football Club beat Hameed Al Husseinia Veterans Football Club Colombo 3-0 at the final match. Captain of the Champion Team St. Benedict Veterans Athula Perera received champion trophy from the Chief Guest Zahira College Ex-All Round Sportsman M.U.M. Azmi and Man of the Tournament. Hameed Al Husseini Veterans Captain M.S. Sujabdeen received the challenge trophy from Zahira College Ex Soccer Coach T.F.S. Samath. Principal Zahira College Trizvi Marikkar, Board of Governors Chairman Fowzul Hameed, Secretary Rizvi Niyas, Sports Council Deputy Chairman M.S.M. Mazeer, Members of the Board of Governors Alavi Mukthar and Hilal Sanoon distributed medals and awards to the winners. Secretary Zahira Veterans Feroze Inham and old boys of Zahira were also present at the event.
