St. Benedict’s to host sesquicentennial year double wicket cricket tournament

St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, which is celebrating 150 years of education this year, has made elaborate arrangements to hold a double wicket leather ball cricket tournament on 25 and 26 April at the school’s grounds, commencing at 10.00 a.m. Action on both days will be played on a knockout basis. This tournament is being organised by the Old Bens Sports Club led by its President Malsiri Perera, a past cricketer and national basketball player. This is the first time in Sri Lanka that such a tournament will be conducted among schools. The Tournament Committee is chaired by an ardent Old Boy of St. Benedict’s College, past cricket Captain Basil Perera who will be ably assisted by a dynamic committee comprising all past cricketers who have represented St. Benedict’s at the senior level during their heyday. At present 16 schools have confirmed their participation, namely St. Benedict’s College, Royal College Colombo, S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, St. Joseph’s College Colombo, St. Peter’s College Colombo, Ananda College Colombo, St. Aloysius College Galle, St. John’s College Jaffna, St. Anthony’s College Katugastota, Prince of Wales Moratuwa, St. Anthony’s College Wattala, St. Mary’s College Chilaw, De La Salle College Colombo, St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, De Mazenod College Kandana and St. Anne’s College Kurunegala. Attractive cash prizes will be on offer. All cricket lovers are cordially invited to be present and cheer on their respective school.
