After emerging runner-up at the recently-concluded Kotmale CHOX U19 Championship, St. Peter’s College’s footballers are giving their all to the Under 17 Inter-School Football Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association. From the 36 teams that took part from their region, St. Peter’s finished first. In the semi-finals of the group matches, SPC beat the much-fancied Zahira College Colombo, 1-0 to relegate them.  Afam Akram scored the solitary goal of the game through a free kick, to give the Peterites a memorable win. In the final match of the group, the Peterites met Arathusa College, Wellawatta and beat them 5-0. St. Peter’s led 2 – 0 at half time. Dananjaya De Silva played brilliantly and scored three goals while Johan Wickremasinghe and Niresh Sundharraj scored a goal each. SPC moves on to the next stage where 24 teams, each topping their groups from other regions across the country, have been selected to play in a knockout format.
