A fine combination of team effort and skill saw the St. Peter’s College under-19 soccer team, through to the semi-finals of the Kotmale CHOX U19 Championship last Thursday at the City League Grounds. The Peterites beat the mighty Hameed Al-Husseinie College 3-0 much to the surprise of all. Peshala Rajakaruna’s arrival in the second half of the match, though left on the bench during the first half due to injury, increased the excitement. He scored two goals for his team; one in the 25th minute of the second half with a superb header, combined with Afam Akran who neatly crossed the ball from the extreme left.  Peshala’s second goal (the third of the match) was worked through the defence and netted beautifully to the extreme right of the post. The Al Husseinie goalkeeper could do nothing to save his team. The first goal of the match came in the 34th minute, when Niresh’s corner reached Isuru Sampath, who made no mistake to lob the ball over the goalkeeper. The scores were 1-0 at half time. During the first few minutes of the second half there was a flurry of activity with Al Husseinie team trying their best to equalise. However, the Peterite goalkeeper, Mohamed Ashfaq made a couple of super saves to prevent the opponents from scoring. The Peterite defence, particularly Niran, Dananjaya, Michael and Ishan played well together with the rest of the team.
