The Standard Chartered Nations Cup Tennis Challenge will get underway on 16 February 2013 at the Otter Aquatic Club. The exclusive tennis tournament will bring together the expatriate community of Sri Lanka from 8.30 a.m. onwards for the prestigious Standard Chartered Nations Cup Challenge Trophy.  This biannual event is the brainchild of Gihan Dalpethado, who has organised this event successfully in the past.

The British High Commissioner John Rankin, who will host the participants for the awards presentation and fellowship, stated: “I am delighted that Standard Chartered is supporting this event and look forward to a great day of tennis and fellowship.”

Commenting on the tournament, Dalpethado said: “Tennis is a popular sport among players of all ages in Sri Lanka and interest in the game is growing. It is hoped that sponsorships such as this will provide an incentive for greater involvement and patronage for the sport among local corporates and business enterprises.”

He added: “Special thanks is due to the Standard Chartered for being associated with this  novel event and to their generous sponsorship, which has facilitated the conduct of this event, and am looking forward to making this tournament a much anticipated event especially for the diplomatic community in Sri Lanka. An especial thank you also, to the British High Commissioner, for his support of this event.”

All matches will be played at the Otters tennis courts and the management has extended the use of the facilities to all participants and their guests.

As in the past all foreign missions in Sri Lanka are invited to participate and will compete in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events. The winners will receive the prestigious Standard Chartered Nations Cup Challenge trophy.
