Standard Chartered Open returns after a year’s gap

Standard Chartered is back with the second edition of its professional golf tournament in Sri Lanka which kicked off at the Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo yesterday (6) and continues up to 9 February. Over hundred top professionals will start their new season on the international leg of the Professional Golf Tour of India (the “PGTI”). Notable names who will take the field include Rashid Khan ( the 2013 Rolex Rankings winner), Shamim Khan, Chiragh Kumar, Gaurav Ghei, to name a few, along with local favourites Mithun Perera, Anura Rohana, K Prabagaran and N Thangaraja. Standard Chartered, Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar commenting on the tournament said: “Standard Chartered is delighted to be bringing this tournament to Sri Lanka once again, and is a reiteration of the Bank’s support of the development of the game locally. We thank Pro Golf and Sports Mantra for their support in bringing this tournament to Sri Lanka, and look forward to some exciting days of golf.” PGTI Director, Padamjit Sandhu said: “We welcome the return of Standard Chartered Open on the PGTI schedule. We seek to partner with Standard Chartered in building the event into one of the premier tournaments in Sri Lanka in the coming years. The staging of tournaments such as the Standard Chartered Open will play a significant role in promoting professional golf in the South Asian region.” Although not participating in the main tournament, top Indian professional golfer Shiv Kapur will be seen in action during the Pro-Am and clinic for juniors and exclusive guests of Standard Chartered Bank. The tournament is also supported by sponsors Taj Samudra and Dialog as hospitality and telecommunication partners respectively of the event.
