Standard Chartered Trophy 2015 kicks off this Saturday

Standard Chartered’s  international 5-a-side football tournament known as the Standard Chartered Trophy – ‘The Road to Anfield’, leveraging on its sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club, will kick off this Saturday, 7 February, at Campbell Park, Borella. Teams from some leading organisations as well as the Go Forward teams will be in action, and all football enthusiasts are welcome to come and enjoy a day of soccer and competition. First kick-off will be at 9:30 a.m. The team emerging victors will fly to Mumbai to compete against the regional winning teams. Teams participating include MAS Intimates, KPMG, MAS Capital, MAS Linea Aqua, MAS Legato, Walkers Tours, WNS, Aitken Spence, Hirdramani, Hemas, SGIT, Courtaulds and Expo as well as teams from Standard Chartered and Go Forward. The tournament format will include 5-a-side ten minute matches. 24 teams which will be split into four groups of six teams each. Winners of each group will qualify for the semi finals. Referees and officials from the Football Federation of Sri Lanka will officiate. For South Asia regional representation, teams from India and Sri Lanka will participate and vie for the chance to represent South Asia region at the finals to be held in Mumbai on 1 March. Road to Anfield is a ‘money can’t buy’ opportunity for participants to win a chance at playing on a Premier League pitch. The Road to Anfield program, now in its fourth season, will see the participation of a total of 19 markets from across Standard Chartered’s footprint participating in the regional qualifying tournaments. A total of 10 winning teams will then represent their country at the Standard Chartered Trophy Finals, to be played at Liverpool FC’s home ground, Anfield on 8 May. The prize for the regional winners includes a trip to the UK, dinner with LFC Legends and a chance to receive a professional training session with the Academy coaches in preparation for the Finals. The champions will receive the ‘Standard Chartered Trophy’ at Anfield.
