Thomians of various vintage groups from S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia, Gurutalawe, Bandarawela and Preparatory School Colpetty will compete yet again, in an Inter Batch/Collegiate Soft Ball Cricket Sixes encounter for the sixth consecutive year on Saturday 9 November at the NCC grounds – Colombo 7. The event is being organised by the Class of ’90 to raise funds for an ambitious building project benefitting the lower school. This event has rapidly gathered momentum throughout the years, in all social circles and has become a permanent fixture in the Thora calendar.  From its inception the event kept reinventing itself with day-night matches being played during the last two years.  At times it has taken the look of a mini Royal Thomian but for Thomians only.  The organisers continue in their endeavours to outdo themselves year on year. There is already tremendous response from the Thomian fraternity and also from sponsors who have been present since the tournament’s inception in 2008. The package for the Old Boys will include the traditional friendly rivalry, great deeds on the field, memories of the good old days when even the tolling of the bell at the end of recess yet allowed just a few more balls to be bowled, a six to be scored, a wicket to be taken or a match to be won! Several batch/college teams have already registered but there is still room for up to a maximum of 36 teams to make the “league” for this tournament, which will be worked off with four matches being played simultaneously. Those interested are urged to confirm their participation ASAP with Kaluarachchi (Kalu) 0777 356 741 or Yainna on 0727 200 200. For those of you not actually taking the field but, rolling up to enjoy the atmosphere, 9 November at NCC holds plenty of entertainment, with lots of fun and excitement for the whole family including bouncers, face painters, food, drinks, beer garden, live bands, papare band and DJ to name a few. It will be one big fun-filled day, a fantastic Thomian Carnival of camaraderie and celebration. Please do come early to partake in the festivities. ‘Back to STC…happy land…happy land...’ hear the music beckoning you to come in your numbers, for yet another celebration amongst Thomians and friends… delivered in true Thomian style, towards a worthy cause.
