Long-serving all rounder Scott Styris on Friday announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a 12-year career with the New Zealand team.

Styris, 35, said that following this year’s World Cup held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, he had time to reflect on his international future and decided the time was right to step aside as the team begins a new era under coach John Wright and new captain Ross Taylor. “I have thoroughly enjoyed representing my country in the international cricketing environment,” Styris said. “It has been an honour and a pleasure to play for the Black Caps alongside so many quality players over the years and to have been a part of many key moments during that time.”

Styris will continue to play domestic cricket for Northern Districts and in the Indian Premier League with the Chennai Super Kings. He played his first match for the Black Caps on the 1999 tour of India and his last was in this year’s World Cup semi-final against Sri Lanka.
