Taylor ready to embark on latest assignment as New Zealand captain

Auckland, Aug 12(ANI): Ross Taylor has said that he is looking forward to New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe, which will be his first tour as the new Black Caps captain.

“It was a long process in being appointed captain, but I’ve had a lot of time to reflect over, I guess, what the job entails and what I need to do myself, but it’s something that I’m looking forward to,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Taylor, as saying.

“I’ve never been to Zimbabwe, so not only is it exciting times to go to a new country, but to take your country there and to be captain is something I’m looking forward to,” he added.

Taylor further said that it was nice to have a bit of downtime, as he has not played since the Indian Premier League (IPL) in May.

However, he also suggested it could be the calm before the coming international season.

“This is the longest time in my international career where I haven’t played any international cricket, so I’ve enjoyed the break. But with the break comes the knowledge that we’ll be busy for the next 18 months to two years,” he said.

“Its something I’m looking forward to, getting the team together. I guess there’s been a few retirements, but it’s exciting with players coming through and seeing how they go,” he added.

New Zealand will face Zimbabwe in October, which will be followed by a two-Test series against Australia in December and tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa next year.
