Thangaraja shoots opening round 66 – Bally’s Sri Lanka Open 2015

Thangarajah started his challenge to win the Bally’s Sri Lanka Open 2015, with a fired up five under Par 66, to lead the field of 100 vying for the Winner’s Purse Prize.

UTE-CAT, Co-Sponsor of the event and promoter of Golf at all times conducted the UTE – CAT & Pam Fernando Handicap Events played concurrently for members. This year was outstanding with 66 Ladies and Men competing for the Pam Fernando Trophy and the UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy respectively.

Prashan Peiris came from 9 strokes behind in the first round to win the UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy for the best aggregate Gross Score with a total of 165 on a better last card from Rohan Fernandez.  Anouk Chitty back in a Tournament after a while won the Pam Fernando Trophy for the best aggregate Gross over two Rounds for Ladies with a total of 162, 2 shots ahead of young Tania Balasuriya.

The Seniors Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union was keenly contested and  a sensational Round of gross 73 by Rohan Fernandez playing with young rising star Prashan Peiris held on to win both the Dr. L. V.R. Fernando for the best Gross aggregate and the Havelock Trophy for the best aggregate Net Score.

UTE-CAT associated with promoting golf and sponsoring golf tournaments of significance hosted the participants and distinguished invitees to a sumptuous lunch followed by the awards ceremony.

The legendary Pin Fernando’s golfing legacy and records still remain unbroken and the journey continues long after, with the family ensuring the partnership with golf, deeply engaged in sponsorship and administration of Golf.UTE Chairman Priath Fernando, in his capacity as Chairman of the Bally’s Sri Lanka Open 2015 Championship Committee, is at the core of organising the UTE-CAT and the Open Golf Championship.

Druki Martenstyn, Tirusha Jesudasan, Priath Fernando and Nimal Piyaratne gave away the awards.

A special prize for a sensational Hole in One at the 9th Hole by Song Ting Luo playing in the Pam Fernando Trophy was given by Rachel Raj – Fashion with a luxe vintage appeal, the Hallmark of Rachel Raj – the Luxury Clothing Fashion House.

Sri Lanka Golf Union President Nimal Piyaratne thanked the sponsors UTE-CAT for the sponsoring of the handicap events for members as co-sponsors of the Bally’s Sri Lanka Open and the Title Sponsors Bally’s Entertainment along with the other sponsors Nissan X Trail and CML Walkers.
