A memorable day was marked at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit on 10 August when ‘Kart Fight 2014,’ a national karting event, was held at this track for the first time. The Kart Fight 2014, organised by Carlton Motor Sports Club, Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and Sri Lanka Karting Circuit, was held in a festive manner. The event organisers had received over 100 entries, a lot more than expected for this inaugural event. The events had been categorised under eight classes, four of which saw non license holders competing with each other to test their skills on the international karting track amidst a large number of spectators. The A, B, C and D classed saw these young drivers competing like professionals, enjoying the new karting machines which meet international standards. In Class A, Jason Carron had no difficulty in winning the title ahead of Ishara Abeysooriya and Imesh Silva who were placed second and third respectively. Dinesh Pathirana bagged the Class B title with Charith Gunawardana and Huzzaifa Jaffarjee finishing in second and third positions respectively. Romaldo Labrooy won the Class C category with Sam Samarasinghe and Ishan Mohomad Shazini in the second and third places. The Class D championship was bagged by Adam Benaway. Shihan Sanka Amarawatta was placed second and Harshaka Edirisingha also booked a place in the podium by winning the third place. It was good to see those young drivers performing well in the tiny four wheelers as for some of them, this was their first time driving a kart. In the much competitive classes where experienced drivers were seen in action, familiar names occupied the top three positions in their respective classes. Bryan Perera won the Class E event ahead of Damith Weerasinghe and Kevin Perera. Weerasinghe was second ahead of Kevin Perera who was the third in Class E. In Class F event, Aamir Gaffoor had a tough game against Chandima Goonarathna and Ayesh Bandara but managed to win the event. Goonarathna was placed second while Bandara finished third. Experienced formula McLarens driver Clement Senarathna had no issue in securing the top position ahead of second placed Sam Samith and David Siyaguna who finished third. There was an event for ladies and Ashvitha Wickrama was the winner. She was ahead of second placed Maryse Benedicta Navarathna and Jackline Bocks who finished third. Spectators at the Bandaragama Karting Circuit also enjoyed the festive atmosphere while cheering their favourite drivers. The restaurant which served delicious food and the pool added more fun to the event while dancers added more to the carnival atmosphere. Spectators also enjoyed the flyover which enabled them to cross the track whenever they wished, even while an event was in progress. The Sri Lanka Karting Circuit had hosted successful karting events according to the top standards in the past but Kart Fight 2014 was the first national event held in Bandaragama and it proved its class as a top attraction on the Lankan racing calendar. The Sri Lanka Karting Circuit at Bandaragama will see more and more events of this caliber in the near future and the spectators will be in for a treat when top class karting meets a world class venue. Pioneers in helmet manufacturing U.P. Co. and LEXONE Gift Depot added strength to the event asco-sponsors while the associated sponsors were Rainwear Apparel, DSI Tyres, Athula Paranayapa Services and Commercial Credit.
