Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Championship 2014 for the Rukmani Kodagoda Trophy, sponsored by Perera & Sons Ltd. Ishira Fernando and Prashan Peiris both came through beating, Charya Kannangara and Zaffar Sikkander by the same margin 3/2 on day three of the Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Championship 2014 for the Rukmani Kodagoda Trophy, sponsored by Perera & Sons Ltd. Whilst Charya being the number 4 held his own up to the end, much more was expected from Zaffar who had recently been picked to represent Sri Lanka. Perhaps, this is what match play is all about – being able to handle a different psyche to stroke play. Young Prashan will be faced with a different proposition as he takes the underdog position against Ishira who has shown tremendous confidence right through this new event. The Silver Division for age group 11 to 14+ too saw no further upsets as the top 2 seeds get ready for the final battle. Sathsara Dilshan having rested up yesterday due to being gifted a walk-over showed no rustiness as he despatched the number 4 seed Prashan Heedeniyage 4/3 ensuring that no more Prashan’s are in a final. D. D. Hiruna Sigera continued his good form and handed marching orders to M. Dilip Muthukumara with a comfortable 3/2 victory. The Bronze Division for age group under 10+ was keenly contested with Manisha Hirushan getting the better of Levon Niyarapola by 3/1 and the girls camp had much to cheer about when Kayla Perera trounced VikashThangadore by 3/2. With overnight rains providing excellent playing conditions, the three finals on day 4 promise to be excellent showdowns to determine the very first Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Champions.
