The third tri-annual ‘Inter-Church Games’ (ICG) will be held from 18-25 April at the P. Sara Oval. Organised by ‘Enforcers of the Call,’ a volunteer organisation of dedicated intercessors on a mission to spread unity and prosperity across the nation, the games bring together athletes from around the island for seven days of various sporting events. Commencing from 2009 ICG is held every three years where the Church in Sri Lanka, rising above regional, racial, denominational and social barriers, unite to compete and celebrate each others’ talents through sport, thereby invoking divine blessings on our nation. The Games, drawing together athletes and sporting enthusiasts across the country, is a national event, conducted very professionally, in the fashion of the Olympics, with grand opening and closing ceremonies. ICG 2009 and 2012 were held at Racecourse Grounds and Shalika Grounds respectively. ICG 2015 will include athletics, swimming, cricket, a marathon and a version of the ‘Amazing Race’. The actual games will commence with the swimming meet on 20 April at the NCC pool followed by the cricket tournament on 21 April at the P. Sara Oval. The next three days will see the track and field events worked off at the Oval, while the marathon and Amazing Race will happen on the morning of Saturday 25 April. Since this is the third ICG, the churches from around the island are preparing big teams with expectations of over 2,000 athletes and double the number in spectators and cheering squads. This year’s opening ceremony will also include a grand parade of all participating churches culminating in a worship concert featuring musicians and worship leaders from around the world and closer to home. The event has also brought together sponsors from a multitude of industries willing to sponsor the timely cause. Perera & Sons will be the official food sponsor for the event, while American Premium Water is the official water sponsor of the games. Casons Rent-A-Car will provide transportation needs of the worship teams and musicians arriving from abroad. Electronic media partners for the event are Sun FM and ThePapare.com For more information, please visit the official Enforcers of the Call website, Facebook fan page or email [email protected].
