Trinity: 49 Points
St. Anthony’s: 13 Points
Trinity College continued their unbeaten run in the Singer Division I Under20 rugby encounter when they overcame Antonians by 49 Points (7 Tries, 4 Conversions, 2 Penalties) to 13 Points (2 Tries, 1 Penalty) at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium yesterday.
At the short breather Trinity led 22/8.
The game got off to a great start with running rugby by both teams. Antonians played their hearts out early in the game but lacked the finishing touches. Trinity on their part on attack looked solid. They split the Antonians’ defence a number of times with some lightning pace moves. On defence they too were in pieces with players all over. Trinity full back Shanushka Abeywickrema played a grand game both in attack as well in defence. Heavy rain in the second half was an obstacle for running rugby by both teams with ball handling becoming tough with the wet ball.
For the Antonians tries were scored by Shamal Weerasekera and Duminda Hettiarachchi and Penalty by Kumara. For the Lions, tries were scored by Full Back Shanushka Abeywickrema, Centre Sachintha Dissanayake (2), Second Row Forward Rahul Karunathilke, Scrum Half AnukeBoyagoda (2) and Winger Geeshan Pethiyagoda. Full Back Shanushka Abeywickrema also put over two penalties for Trinity.
