Trinity to meet Richmond in U17 finals

By Shamseer Jaleel Trinity College Kandy Under 17 cricketers under Skipper Shavindu Amarasinghe will be coming out on 31 August when they meet Richmond College Galle in the Under 17 finals which will be played at the Kettarama Stadium. Trinity coached by Sampath Perera, the former NCC Head Coach who was brought in by Trinity College Cricket Foundation in 2007, has turned Trinity cricket into a winning outfit. Rugby football was the main game at Trinity but after Sampath coming into Trinity, it has produced some top class players. Trinity on its way to the finals against Richmond beat St. Thomas’ Matale, Ibbagamuwa Central, St Mary’s Negombo, Sri Rahula Katugastota, Dharmaraja, St. Sylvester’s, Matara Rahula, Mahanama, St Peter’s, Ananda and St. Joseph’s. They were only beaten by St. Sebastian’s. Boyegoda led from the front with an outstanding all-round performance not only by taking 18 wickets but also scoring 491 runs with an average of over 49 runs per innings. A very good contribution was also made by Dilan Madushanka (452), Shanoogeth Shanmuganathan (226) and Sachithra Gaminda (330). In the bowling department Boyagoda got very good support from Shavindu Amarasinghe (10), S Ariyasinghe (13), T. Dodanwala (11) and Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan (17).
