Trinity College who are enjoying one of their best rugby seasons this year will lock horns with an improved Peterite outfit in their last game of the Singer Under 20 League ‘Cup’ encounter, which will be worked off at Pallekelle today (21).
St. Peter’s have won five matches this season, losing only to Royal, while they drew two games, one against Kingswood (14-14) in the opening encounter and their last encounter against the unbeaten Isipathana (25-25). While Trinity lost one game going down to Isipathana (17-21) but won the Bradby Shield for the fourth consecutive year along with the Canon De Seram Trophy win over the Thomians.
This annual encounter will be played for General Dennis Perera trophy. He was one of the former Army Commanders who passed away last year.
Trinitians’ strength is their speedy three quarters with Tharinda Ratwatte leading from the front with some very fast runners such as Lochana Giriyagama and Sanchana Sheik playing at winger’s position. Tharinda already have notched by 100 points for this season through his kicking boots plus his try scoring. While the Petrite too field an all round outfit who could give Trinity a tough time. Currently in the Singer League table Trinity occupies number 2 position with 39 points while the Petrites are placed fourth with 33.5 Points.
This will be an emotional moment for Trinity Coach Neil Foote who will be handling Trinity side in his last game at their home ground Pallekelle. His record speaks volume for this New Zealand coach under his belt winning 50 games, losing 12 of them with one drawn game in his four-year stint with Trinity. During this time period Trinity won 4 Bradby Shield, 3 Canon De Seram Trophy and one President Trophy plus ending as runner up league twice. Referee Priyantha Gunaratne.
