Trinity College Kandy under 18 skipper Sajana Sangasinghe and his deputy Rukshan Dhammpala had a big task in their hands; when the season started they wanted to remain unbeaten in the school season and bring the first ever Milo league trophy to Kandy. They achieved their first task very successfully when they ran over all the schools in the season without much effort. The season and their traditional encounter against Royal were over with a record win.
Their second task was a new one as Milo introduced the school trophy on a league basis and then moved to knock out for the 16 teams who finish on top. Trinity after receiving a walk over against Maliyadeva went on to beat Vidyartha, Dharmaraja and moved for their next game against St Joseph’s in Colombo. As all teams will have their off days too this was a bad taste for the ‘Lions’ when they were edged out by an unthinkable Joes outfit 12/18 at the Science College grounds two weeks ago. There are some outstanding players in this team who will go the under 20 outfit next year. Ruckshan Dhammapala who is another outstanding number 8 played well in the season along with Shadee Deen.
After moving to plate Trinity beat Thurstan in semi-final and Isipathana in the ‘Plate’ finals. Trinity Under 18 outfit was guided well by two of their old boys who played for the Trinity outfit some time back. They were very well handled by Thusitha De Silva and Pradeep Basnayake.
