The first Singer League 2016 game in the second round in Kandy will kick-off today at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekelle when the hosts Trinity will entertain visitors Science College, Mount Lavinia. Kick-off is scheduled at 4.30 p.m.
Trinity revamped their performance in their last outing in the second leg of the Bradby Shield encounter against Royal, beating them by five points to tie and share the shield only for the second time in its history.
Led by national youth player Rahul Karunathilake, they have some outstanding talent in their ranks. Unusual for a Trinity side, they have one of the best three quarter lines among the schools. Geshan Pethiyagoda, Sanushka Abeywickrema and Lashan Wijesuriya are all playing at their peak.
Science have two outstanding players, one of them the leading try scorer for this season, centre Tharindu Maduranga and nippy scrum half Madumadewa. If space is given, Trinity will be in deep trouble. Both these players are potential for the Sri Lanka Youth Sevens teams with the Malaysian and Hong Kong Sevens tour coming up in two months.
Currently, Science is placed second and Trinity placed third at the end of the first round encounters.
