TVS unleashed its racing DNA yet again at the recently-concluded 24th edition of the prestigious Fox Hill Super Cross 2016. Fox Hill is the most sought-after racing event in Sri Lanka and was organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in coordination with the Sri Lanka Auto Sports Drivers Association (SLADAR).
The main championship events, Group MX – Motocross Bikes up to 125 cc (2T) and up to 250 cc (4T) with 10 laps as the first and second race was won by Jaques Gunawardena and Ishan Dasanayake respectively, resulting in the TVS Racing Team winning the overall 250cc Fox Hill championship. The race draws the cream of the racing circuit to display their driving and riding skills at the unique 2 km track. This year, more than 149 riders and 190 drivers participated in 24 events, including 12 motorbike events and 12 Car and Jeep events. More than 25,000 spectators were present to witness the races this year.
Commenting on the win, Chief Executive Officer of TVS Lanka, Ravi Liyanage said: “This is the true spirit of Brand TVS, where our team unleashed its racing DNA, denoting the spirit of Brand TVS. Geethal Anthony, Assistant General Manager, TVS Lanka, added: “It was an undisputed win at the Fox Hill. I believe that the TVS team will triumph in all the races in the future. This is a landmark journey to market Leadership in speed and performance. The professionalism shown by the TVS Racing Team was commendable.”
Speaking to the media, Hashan Haputhanthri, Head of Marketing, TVS Lanka, explained, “This event signifies some of the value propositions that Brand TVS certainly stands for: performance, speed, youth, dynamism and fun. TVS Racing Team has upheld all these qualities. TVS will continue to participate in events of this nature in keeping with our brand fit and aspirational consumer segments.”
Jacques Gunawardena from Nugeygoda is a proud Lyceum International School student, who started his racing career at age four and at the age of 15, kicked off the season by winning three of the opening rounds of his pet event (the under-16, 85cc), which he has dominated for four consecutive years. A talented and passionate motocross rider, he is currently at the top of the national list. At age 15, he was able to finish first in the national and second place in the SLADA championship for the 2015 season.
Ishan Dasanayake, a spirited Maliyadeva College past student from Kurunegala, started his racing career at age four in the 50cc category. He has achieved more than 200 victories and this year he won Udawalawa, Ambilipitiya, Minneriya and Gajaba Supercross Championships before embarking on Fox Hill. He has also finished 13th in the Asian rounds.
