Tyronne brings honour to Sri Lanka at Mercedes Trophy Golf World Finals

The 23rd Mercedes Trophy World Final was held in Stuttgart, Germany from 15 to 17 September 2012 with the awards ceremony held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The Mercedes Trophy is a special global premium tournament series for amateurs, which this year again broke the record set last year for the number of participants, over 65,000 players from more than 60 countries took part in the 2012 Mercedes Trophy.

From left: Ee Siew (Team leader) Tyronne Weerackody (Sri Lanka) Leonides Latayan (Philippines) and Chin Chee Keong (Malaysia)  Tyronne Weerackody represented Sri Lanka on the East Asian team together with Leonides Latayan (Philippines) and Chin Chee Keong (Malaysia). Tyronne had the second best stableford points of the tournament on the first day which was 44 points.

At the finals, 40 countries comprising of 33 teams from around the world took part, with three players on each team. Countries including USA, UK, Australia, France, Germany, India, Korea, China and Japan participated as individual countries and few teams participated comprising three countries.

This year’s winner of the Nations Cup was the team from East Asia, with a points total of 195. In second place was the team from the United Kingdom with 193 points, followed by the team from the Netherlands with 191 points.
