Union Assurance loses to newcomer Prym Intimates; more matches this weekend

A solid opening stand of 151 runs in 97-balls between Milan Maduwantha (66 in 51 balls, 02 sixes and 08 fours) and Iresh Udara (62 in 51 balls with 08 fours), helped new comer, Prym Intimates to gain a convincing 35-runs win over Union Assurance PLC, in the ongoing 06th Stafford-Honda, MCA “G” division 25-Over League Tournament 2016, continued last week-end. 

The other notable performances came from Basith Marikkar (81 in 53 balls, 04 sixes and 10 fours) and Dilan Jayasundera (40) from WNS Global, who put on an opening stand of 125 runs in 79 balls Vs. Micro Holdings; Nayana Kumara, who carried his bat out after scoring 97 not out in 77 balls, with 12 fours for Avery Dennison Vs. Mobitel “B”; Ranga Rajapaksa from Mobitel “B” (81 in 50 balls, 08 sixes and 04 fours Vs. Avery Dennison); the 110-runs stand for the third wicket between G. Maduranga (60) and S. Priyadarshana (64 not out) for Courtaulds Clothing Vs. Glaxo SmithKline; Chandima Sampath from A Baur & Co. (76 Vs. LAUGFS Holdings) and the 105-runs stand for the 3rd wicket between Madura Jayasena (66) and S. Udul (65) for Asiri Hospital Vs. Jetwing Travels. 

The match between Mobitel “B” and Avery Dennison went to the wire; Mobitel “B” nudged Avery by 01 run; Avery Chasing a victory target of 169 runs in 20 overs needed 13 runs to win in the last over; Nadeeka Sampath, who bowled the last over, held his nerve to bowl 05 ones in the 05 balls, leaving 08 runs in the last ball, which was hit for a six, but was not good enough for Avery Dennison.

With this batch of matches, the league stage of the tournament came to a conclusion after 105 matches; the tournament will now advance to the elimination stage with the top 16 teams from the 07 groups, the pre quarter finals will be worked off this weekend, 6 and 7 August.
