UTE powers Darin Weerasinghe at 2011 Rotharham Katukurunda

United Tractor and Equipment (UTE) has come forward to sponsor racing driver Darin Weerasinghe’s bid to become this year’s Rotherham driver of the year in the 3500cc motor cars category.  

Darin who drives a 2011 Subaru Impreza is the current Tarmac Champion at Katukurunda and will defend his title on the final leg at Katukurunda on 7th August 2011.

Darin Weerasinghe has demonstrated exceptional consistency securing a position on the podium at nearly every racing event he has taken part in,” UTE Group Chairman and CEO, Priath Fernando said.

“As Sri Lanka’s sole representative for Caterpillar, a brand that embodies consistent strong performances amidst trying conditions and as a supporter of local talent, it is fitting for UTE to support Darin Weerasinghe in this endeavour.”

Darin Weerasinghe is the winner of the Air Marshall Roshan Goonethilake Challenge Trophy for Driver of the Year 2010. He won the Mahagastota and the Radella Hill Climb in 2005 and the Eheliyakanda Hill Climb, Matara in 2005 with new class records.

The 26 year-old driver with nearly 12 years of experience, has also emerged as the winner at the Katukurunda Circuit Meet in August 2010, Nuwara Eliya Road Race in April 2006, the CMSC Auto Cross in May 2006, the ITN Katukurunda Circuit Meet in 2006 and the SLARDAR Katukurunda Circuit Meet in 2007.

UTE also has had a long term association with golf through the sponsorship of the Pin Fernando Trophy, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the country.
