Victoria Golf and Country Resort will conducts its exclusively members-only club championship 2014 with the last tournament for the year on the cards.
The golf course, which was named as ‘Best Golf Course in the Sub-Continent’ last week, will see its teeing off today commencing at 7:30 a.m. which will continue on 23 November as well.
This club championship will be sponsored by Etisalat, Dynasty Residency, Aqua Water and Lucky Jewellers, with the first two coming in as the main sponsors and the last two chipping in as sub sponsors for this mega event.
The defending champions for ladies is Sawen Selvaratnam with stiff competition coming her way from Niloo Jayatillake, Manori Jayakody, Sumithra Ukkwatte, Sonia Boyle, Linda Harris, Fran de Mel, Chris Benjamin, Jyoti Haynes, Pauline Morley, Indira Tibblins and Ahalya Rajan.
The defending champion in the men’s category is Sujeewa Lankatillake who has won it three times. Competition will come from Damindra Fernando, Neroy Marso, Ian Tait, Haynes, Sirath Kasthuriratne, Sam Gunarathe, Rohan de Silva, Sathis Balasubramaniam, Dayananda Ukkwatte and Wettimuni brothers (Sidath, Nimal and Sanjay).
This will be 18-hole championship of two records and the winner will be on aggregate with the he awards ceremony taking place on 23 November at the club house.
