Victoria golf course named Asia’s best

By Shamseer Jaleel The Victoria Golf and Country Resort was named ‘Asia’s Best Golf Course’, at the Asian Monthly Golf Magazine’s Golf Oscars held recently in Singapore. Neroy Marso and Dhanushika Medagoda received the award at the ceremony in Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The Victoria Golf Club competed against golf courses throughout the subcontinent. The Karachi Golf Club emerged runner-up followed by the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
 Annual Victoria Golf C’ship on 22 Nov. The Victoria Golf and Country Resort will end 2014 on a high note with its annual club championship worked off at the club’s golf course at Rajawella, Digana on 22 and 23 November. The tee-off is scheduled at 7.30 a.m. each day. This championship is exclusively for members of the club and entries are restricted to 100 golfers. The defending champion in the men’s category is Sujeewa Lankatileke and he will be challenged by several top-class golfers such as Neroy Marso, Ian Tait, Serath Kasthuriratne, Damindra Fernando, Rohan de Silva, Desmond Haynes, Nimal Wettimuny, Sidath Wettimuny, Sanjaya Wettimuni, Johan Wessweman, Tony Witham and Sam Gunaratne. The defending ladies’ champion is Suwen Selvaratnam, who will battle to retain her title against Niloo Jayathilake, Manori Jayakody, Sonia Boyle, Pauline Morley, Linda Harris, Fran de Mel, Jyoti Haynes, Indira Tibblins, Chathuri Engman, Sumithra Dayananda Ukkwatte and Margritta Berg. The first day of play will feature an 18-hole first round. The second round, which will be played on 23 November, will also be held in the same format. (SJ)
