Two leading table tennis-playing schools in the Central Province, Vidyartha College and Mahamaya College, won the men’s and women’s championship at the Kandy District Open Table Tennis Championship, organised by Kingswood College and sponsored by C.S. Osaka Car Sales.
The tournament took place at the Jagath Rajapakse International Table Tennis Stadium at Doluwa last weekend.
Over 60 TT players from the Central Province participated in the mega sporting event. The Under 10 championship for boys saw Kingswood, Dharmaraja and the Anuruddha National School from Nawalapitiya dominating. The Kingswoodians won three of the titles, including the ‘A’ Division crown while the other schools won two titles each. The Under 10 Girls’ Championship was dominated by Mahamaya College, who claimed all three divisions. The top ‘A’ Division event for boys was won by Vidyartha College, who beat the Singha Sports Club in the finals.
Mahamaya Girls’ College won the open championship for women by defeating Girls’ High School Kandy in the finals. Mahamaya had some class acts, such as Ridmi Karadanarachchi. Samadhi Hettiarachchi, Thanushi Rodrigo, Janani Pushpakumara and Sandamini Kularatne, in their team.
