Walkers Tours wins Travel Trade Swimming Championship

With SriLankan Airlines out of the way, a new overall winner in the form of the combined team from Walkers Tours & Whittalls Travels took over the title after 31 meets, at the 32nd Travel Trade Sports Club Swimming Championships 2016, sponsored by Luxe Asia, which concluded at the Thurstan College pool on Sunday.

83 events, including eight relays were conducted for men and women in two categories, Novices and Championship, in association with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union.

The four-member team from Heritance Ahungalla performed extremely well to take the fourth spot in the Championship points table.  

The other teams fared as follows: 5 Hilton Colombo, 6 Ozo Colombo, 7 Club Bentota, 8 Kingsbury Hotel, 9 Amaya Hills Kandy, 10 Infinity Vacations, 11 Luxe Asia and 12 Classic Travels. 

There was a huge tussle for second and third places between the combined team of Diethlem Travels and Serendib Leisure and Cinnamon City Hotels. 

Finally, Cinnamon City Hotels (104) tipped Diethlem/Serendib (102) by two points, to end up as runners-up due to a fine performance turned in by Chandana Vidanapathirana (Championship 30-34 age category) and H.L.S. Ananda (Championship 35-39 age category). 

Walkers/Whittalls women swimmers accumulated more points (90) than their men (63) to finish as the overall winner with 153 points.

Novices/Women

18 to 29 years – Megha Weerasekera from Diethlem/Serendib  

30 to 39 years – None

40 & over – Kamanthi Divalugama from Cinnamon City Hotels 

Novices/Men 

18 to 29 years: Jason Pereira from Walkers/Whittalls.

30 to 39 years: Ushan Dharshana from Heritance Ahungalla

40 & Over:  Skanda Wickramasooriya from Heritance Ahungalla. 

Championship/Women

18 to 24 years – Methma Jayawardena from Walkers/Whittalls

25 to 29 years – Ridma Vithanage from Walkers/Whittalls 

40 & over – Thilanganie Warakagoda from Walkers/Whittalls

Championship /Men

18 to 24 years – Aindra Ratwatte from Walkers/Whittalls

25 to 29 years – Virene Anthonisz from Diethelm/Serendib.

30 to 34 years – Chandana Vidanapathirana from Cinnamon City Hotels

35 to 39 years – H.L.S. Ananda from Cinnamon City Hotels 

40 & over – Pradeep Jayalath from Heritance Ahungalla 

The medal presentation was conducted by Chief Guest, Luxe Asia Director Chaminda Dias, Edward Vandendrisen, the meet Consultant, who participated in this meet continually for 25 years before retiring from Cinnamon Grand, TTSC VP Suranjith de Fonseka and Meet Coordinator and TTSC Committee Member Adrian Jansz.
